Volunteers in the heart of the LGBTI movement
You might have heard when LGBTI activists share their stories of joining activism they often reflect on how they started as volunteers. First, they attend an LGBTI event and then they get empowered to become a proactive member of a larger queer movement. They talk about how they share the same values which the LGBTI organizations strive and advocate for. The LGBTI activists passionately talk about how their volunteering helped them embrace themselves and accomplish certain level of fulfilment, let alone their personal and career growth, as well as their invaluable contribution to the resilience of LGBTI movements across Europe and Central Asia.

In this episode of a series of our community organising webinars, we invite LGBTI activists to join us and share their experiences of engaging volunteers in their work. Discussions during the webinar will shed light on different approaches LGBTI organizations employ in order to engage with volunteers, reflect on why it is important and often times even necessary as part of a strategic community organizing work. We will also hear from an LGBTI volunteer about how they see LGBTI volunteering as a reciprocal opportunity in supporting the LGBTI movement.

The webinar will be interactive, as we also hope to hear from you. Your input will guide our follow-up work in this area.

We will be joined by the following speakers from volunteer and LGBTI organizations:
• Piotr Sadowski - Volonteurope
• Alex Zorilă - Asociația Accept, Romania
• Cem Öztürk - SPoD, Turkey
• Ellen Sleeuwaert - Çavaria and L-week, Belgium

This webinar is for LGBTI organizations, groups and LGBTI activists working on community organizing in Europe and Central Asia.
